Burst Competes Dolby Systems Integrator Training Program
02/18/03 |
DENVER - February 21- Burst recently joined the ranks of an elite group of systems integrators who have completed Dolby's Systems Integrator Training program. Burst's entry into the group raises the number of Dolby factory-trained systems integration partners to 13 in the nation.
The FCC's mandate requiring that stations broadcast digitally deadlines for public television stations and stations in the top 30 markets at the end of May, 2003. ATSC created the standards for digital broadcasting, which requires stations to use Dolby's digital technology to encode multiple channels of audio into the transmission stream.
Tony Roccanova and Burt Covert, engineering project managers at Burst, attended the training. "It was worthwhile," Roccanova said, "because a lot of our business deals with converting older stations to digital broadcast plants. This training will help us provide better engineering solutions."
"When stations capture network programming from satellites, the digital encoding piece that allows the information to pass through their transmitters is already in place," Roccanova explained. "Stations inserting local newsfeeds and local programming need a way to take the standard audio that they've produced and encode it via a Dolby digital compliant signal. That's where the training will come in handy."
Dolby's Jeff Nelson explained, "This training was customized for systems integrators. In contrast to dealers, systems integrators need to look at the entire system and the bigger systems questions. They need to know how all the pieces and products from different vendors fit together. We took information we learned from the major networks to see how they operate and design their facilities, and how it all fits together."
Any broadcaster going on the air must adhere to ATSC standards. Following the training, Burst understands the technology necessary to do it right. "Burst has the systems experts. Their expertise in system design and our expertise in audio technologies combine well. Together, we offer the very best solutions for broadcasters," Nelson said.
